MCP Project 52

For the past couple weeks now, I've been participating in MCP Project 52 on Flickr. Each week the participants are given a theme and asked to shoot and submit one corresponding photo that week. At the end of the week, the people running the project pick their ten favorite images for that week's theme.

I'm so excited to say that one of my images was chosen as part of their top ten last week!

Prom Photos

Hi, everyone. It's almost that time again: prom! I know that most schools have a photographer at prom from whom you can order photos, but think about it--you pay $40 for a picture package with 20 prints of one image of your son or daughter in front of a neutral background surrounded by cheesy looking props. Why not spend the same amount to get several pictures that are as creative and unique as your kids are? Introducing the 2011 Prom Special...

For $40, any student who attends a Bloomington high school or Edgewood High School can get his/her photos taken before heading off to prom. This session is 30 minutes long, and photos can include dates, friends, family, pets, anyone you'd like! This can be done at home or at another location of your choice. Each of your photos will be edited and then shipped to you on a CD along with a limited print release.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer this exact same deal to any student who lives outside of the Bloomington/Elletsville area because of travel costs, but if you are interested, please email me at lenslovephotography@yahoo.com so that we can discuss other pricing options.

Space will be very limited, so make sure you book your session soon!

Stone Cutters Coffee

This Bloomington coffee shop roasts all their beans in-house. They also serve breakfast, lunch, and fantastic pastries. Their owner hired me to shoot some photos for their new website. I think these shots really capture the full experience of this cozy, local coffee shop.

Allisse wanted a bit of a pick-me-up, and so she came to me for a glamour/boudoir session. She looks fantastic in the photos, so I hope they did their job.

We went to Brown County State Park in Nashville, IN for this engagement session. It poured rain on the way there, but thankfully it stopped (mostly) for the session. All of the photos were gorgeous--you can really see how much they love each other and how much fun we had with the session. I can't wait to shoot their wedding next summer!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately--I've been doing so much editing I haven't really had time to post anything.

For this photo session, we went to a local farm with a petting zoo and a pumpkin patch. It was great for capturing the fall colors. Their little boy seemed like he had so much fun petting the animals, playing in the dirt, and roaming amongst the pumpkins. It definitely made for a fun session!

Bella

Bella was a dream to work with. She wasn't camera shy at all, she cooperated with outfit changes, and she played with whatever her parents gave her. Because of all that, I got so many great pictures of her. I wish I could post them all. She is a doll, and her gorgeous blue eyes really pop in her photos.

You might remember Brooke from the prom photos I took a couple months ago. Now she's back for her senior photos. It was sweltering on the day that I shot her pictures, even though we did the session in the morning, so we had to worry about messy hair, sweat, and all that jazz. Really though, she's so gorgeous that they all look fantastic anyway. She wanted a rustic feel to her photos, and this state park was the perfect setting for that.

I did these photos in two separate sessions, one just focused on their little boy and the other focused on their little girl and the family as a whole. Their son is a bit over a year old, and their little girl is only nine days old.

I went to high school with both Christine & TJ, so I was excited when they asked me to shoot their wedding. The ceremony was in a quaint little church, but unfortunately it was also pretty hot that day. That meant no one really wanted to stand around and take pictures for very long, but we got some really nice shots anyway.

I had a portrait session with David and his mom. We went to a local playground for about an hour. He had a good time, and I think it shows in the pictures.

Tyler & Brooke

Tyler played a double-header on Saturday, and I shot a double-header... pictures of him playing baseball, as well as his prom pictures. (How awful would it be to have to play two baseball games before going to prom? Who scheduled that? However, his team did win both games, so at least there's that. I, on the other hand, got a major sunburn.) Here are some of my favorite shots from both the game and prom.

Brandee & Jason

I went to high school with both Brandee and Jason, so it was pretty awesome that I got to shoot their wedding. They were supposed to have a nice outdoor ceremony, with a reception in a nearby lodge after. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and it poured rain for most of the day. Jason said that the ceremony site looked like a swamp. That meant the ceremony had to be moved in to the reception site, which actually made for a really cozy, warm ceremony. It was lovely. Because of the rain, we didn't get to go out and do the fun, creative shots of the wedding party or of the two of them, but we did the best we could given the circumstances. Here are some of my favorite shots from the evening.

Carrie & Curt had their wedding reception on Saturday, and it was so nice to get to take more pictures for them. They're both a lot of fun, and their family and friends were great, too. Here's some of my favorites.

Colorguard & Winterguard

For a few years, I was the colorguard director at Anderson High School in Anderson, IN. I got to work with a great group of girls (and one boy for a little while) as they learned and performed various shows. I took lots of pictures along the way, of course. My sister is director now, and she and the girls are working on improving their winterguard show for finals next weekend. As my own little way of saying good luck, here's a few shots that I've taken of them along the way.

Oscar & Carman

Oscar asked me to hide behind a tree and take photos when he proposed to his girlfriend, Carman. Not only did he suprise her by proposing, but she also didn't know I was taking pictures, so later he surprised her with pictures of the proposal. How sweet! To make sure everything worked perfectly, we met up beforehand, and I told him where I would stand and where he needed to get her to stand so that I could actually see her face from my arboreal hiding place. It worked out really well, and it makes me wish more people would ask me to do this. It was really awesome.

He got down on one knee.

She said yes!

Carrie & Curt

This is the first wedding that I've gotten to shoot. I'm so grateful to Carrie & Curt for trusting me on their big day. Their wedding was a perfect one to start with, I think, because it was so small and intimate and, in some ways, fairly informal--that made everything run really smoothly, for them and for me. They got married November 5 at the Story Inn in Nashville, IN. The last of the leaves were clinging to the trees, and it wasn't too cold out yet, which all made for a wonderful outdoor ceremony.

I bought an infrared filter shortly before the wedding, and I used it to take this shot of the ceremony area. The man at the camera store told me that it wouldn't work with my digital camera without altering it and breaking my warranty, but I just popped it on the lens and took a long exposure (using a tripod of course). I proved him wrong--it works beautifully.

Carrie's accessories. I personally wouldn't have thought of putting peacock feathers with my wedding dress, but it's all really pretty together.

I like that they had their wedding rings in one box together, instead of two separate ones. It's just seems symbolically sweeter that way.

They kept laughing when they were supposed to be kissing.

This was all Curt's idea.

Football

I don't do much in the way of sports photography (mostly because no one's really asked me to do any for them), but we were invited to a high school football game--my fiance's cousin is on the team. Naturally, I decided to bring along my camera, and I thought I'd share a few shots from the game. (His cousin, Tyler, is #44 by the way, but I'm sure by the end of this post you'd be able to guess that.)

Tyler's playing offense at this point. I don't know how those guys make it through an entire game playing both offense and defense. That has to be tiring.

Felisha

Felisha is another wonderfully-freckled redhead. I like that even though I softened this image up a bit, you can still see her freckles.

Love, love, love this shot. It's so playful and fun.

Her hair is casting a little too much shadow on her face for my taste, but her smile is so genuine and perfect that I just had to include it anyway.

Sabrina

I felt like Sabrina's outfit and accessories combined for this natural, almost hippie kind of vibe, so I convinced her to take a couple shots without any shoes.

She brought her guitar along to the session. This shot reminds me of an album cover. (You can never look directly at the camera on your album cover, you know.) I also really love the warmth of the fallen leaves, which is echoed in the warm colors of her guitar.

I know this shot doesn't include her face, but I still love it.

Allisse

I'm going to start this blog off by backposting some work that I've done previously, just to get things going on the right foot. I'll put up portraits I've done of some seniors, some kids, a marriage proposal, a wedding, and maybe some other random shots for fun.

I'm starting with one of the seniors. Allisse had a really long senior photo session, taking tons of pictures, and we both had a lot of fun. (Oh, if you're wondering how exactly to pronounce her name, it's uh-lish-uh--kind of like the word militia. Now you know.)

Allisse was a member of her high school's colorguard and winterguard, and so she wanted lots of pictures in the various uniforms she'd worn throughout the years and with some of her flags (which she's laying on here), rifle, and sabre. I love the expression on her face in this shot, which I captured while we were just chatting.

I think this is my favorite shot from the whole session.

Goofing around. (Her high school's mascots are the Indians, btw, hence the outfit.)

I like hand-coloring black and white photos to give them a little something extra sometimes.
